uses of essential oils   Just like you have a medicine guide in your medicine box telling you which pill to pop for a particular health problem, I have been inspired to prepare an aromatherapy “first-aid guide” for the benefit of my clients and readers. This quick-reference chart lists out some common ailments and tells you which oils to use when, and how. You can even print this out and keep it handy for a quick (and free) aromatherapy consultation.

How to use essential oils:

Quick inhalation: Place 3-4 drops of essential oil on a tissue, place it under the nose and inhale directly.
Massage and Topical: Combine 3 drops of essential oil with 1 teaspoon carrier oil and massage or apply the affected areas.
Baths: Fill a bath with warm water, add 1/4 cup of salt mixed with 10 drops of essential oil.
Inhalation: Add 3 drops of essential oil blend to a bowl of warm water and inhale for around 10 minutes.
Gargles: In an empty glass, mix 1/2 teaspoon salt with 6 drops of essential oil.  Add the juice of one lemon and 1/2 cup of warm water.  Stir well, gargle and spit it out.  Use it twice daily.
Sitzbath: Mix 4 drops of essential oil with 1 teaspoon of sea salt.  Run a bath with warm (not hot) water to the level of hips, add the salt/essential oil mixture and sit in it for 10 min.
Compresses: Mix 5 drops of essential oil and 1 tablespoon salt in an empty bowl.  Fill bowl with hot or cold water, soak a piece of cloth, wring it out and cover the affected area.  Repeat this process for 5 to 15 minutes, as needed
