Cocoa Mint Sugar Scrub — Yummy for Your Skin AND Your Mood!

I’m always getting letters from great Aromandina fans asking me for more DIY ideas.  One thing that you all really seem to love is sugar scrubs.  According to your letters, you can’t get enough of them!  That’s why I’m sharing my recipe for homemade Cocoa Mint Sugar Scrub.  The ingredients seem like they would make a decadent dessert — but in this case, they’re a yummy treat for your skin and your mood!

ingredients cocoa scrubHere’s what you’ll need:

–  A small (1/2 pint) mason jar

–  1 cup Sucanat, (a type of whole cane sugar)

–  2 tablespoons natural unsweetened cocoa powder

–  5 drops Spearmint essential oil

–  1/2 cup coconut oil (melt it for about 15 seconds in the microwave first)

Mix the Sucanat and the cocoa powder together, and then mix in the oils.

When you’re ready to use the scrub, wash your skin first.  Take a tablespoon of scrub, and gently massage it into your skin.  After a few minutes, rinse it off with warm water, and pat your skin dry.  Do this once a week, and you’ll feel a dramatic difference!

What’s the magic behind these ingredients?

Coconut oil is a great moisturizer, so it will make your skin feel oh-so-soft.  When you combine it with the graininess of the Sucanat, you wind up with a great exfoliator (perfect before you shave, wax, or tan!).  Spearmint essential oil isn’t as harsh as peppermint — so it won’t irritate your skin — but it provides the same uplifting effect.  Once it hits your nose, your fatigue will melt away!  Combine that minty scent with the natural sweet scent of the cocoa powder, and your senses will feel like they’re getting the ultimate treat!

What’s the best way to use this sugar scrub?

We already talked about using it to exfoliate your skin, but you can do so much more with this natural, organic beauty product!  Use it to rub the stress away after a long day at the office.  Or, use it on a Saturday afternoon, instead of heading out for an expensive spa treatment.  Your skin and your senses will feel just as invigorated, but you won’t have to spend an arm and a leg to get them there!

Another great idea?  Double or triple the recipe, and give it out as gifts!  The mason jar will provide a cute, homemade, crafty look that you could never get in a store — and your friends will love the fact that you took the time to make them a gift.

Best of all, you probably already have sugar and cocoa powder sitting in your pantry — and it’s easy to buy the oils right here at Aromandina!
